AHUENI is a Swahili word for ‘relief”. Ahueni, is a feature story that enhances and enlightens on the importance of sea turtles to get the relief through maximum conservancy.
Aside from their important ecological role, sea turtles are some of the most charismatic animals on the planet as they also act as sort of an umbrella for fish that use them as shelter from predators.
When at the sea surface to breathe or rest, sea turtles also sometimes provide a resting spot for seabirds to land on – sort of like a reptilian aircraft carrier
They also have roles in evolution and maintenance of structure and dynamics of marine ecosystems as prey, consumer, competitor and host.
However cultural beliefs are threats to their growth other than human activities, and natural calamities. The story therefore illuminates on how technology can be used to conserve turtles that are source of revenue in the tourism sector and blue economy
