VALENTINE; HOW BEST CAN WE CELEBRATE THIS DAY?

Valentine is here. February 14 – a day to celebrate love and affection across many nations of the globe.

Honestly, it feels like most people especially men don’t even like its existence.  Anti-valentines? Hahah!☺️😆 Maybe. Anyway, what are these men’s conferences for? Why are they slated exactly on 14th February? Many men are basically finding ways to evade love and affection moment.

That aside, how best can we celebrate this day?

A section of team Lulu had this to share about Valentine;

Dj Ramsey Roy – (grins) “Valentine does not make sense to me…. But If it could, I would like to do the things am used to coz for me it’s not a one day thing. I wouldn’t do anything new. Maybe doing the same thing but in a different way. Making memories is an everyday thing. This moments build up to that love we are talking of.”

About Men’s Conference Roy, said that it is very important to attend only if one will apply what he has learnt. “But apply them according to situations you are in in that relationship knowing that God is the foundation of love… if it’s against His will then my friend you are sinning. So for me that’s part of growth. You learn and unlearn issues of relationships,” Ramsey added.

Whitney Mukami – “For me the best way is going out for a date with the person you love and cherish.  I have no issue with Men’s conferences but waongee biashara mhimu sio kuongelea mwanamke.” (giggles).

Elizabeth Mutinda – “Well, (Laughs)… It’s a month of love.  It’s time to show and express love to anyone. It’s rare you know. It comes annually (smiles). For me I would show some love to anyone even the bodaboda guy who ‘bebas’ me. Everybody. Kuhusu Men’s Conference, I don’t know what happened but I would advice watu wasiende. People are lying each other there. Every relationship is unique. Ningekuwa na uwezo I would call it off. What are they going to do there?”

Janet Mumbi(smiles broadly) ” I am not in a relationship, Sina mchumba na sijaolewa I have nothing to talk about Valentine (She laughs)…. I do not embrace valentine. Not at all.  It doesn’t make sense to me. Wewe ukiulizwa, valentine ni nini utasemaje? This is a borrowed culture. It belongs to the Whites. Am not a White person.”

Alex Kalama – “The best way to celebrate this day is basically taking you fiancé or fiancee out. Mpee surprise. The one that she/he will live to remember. NA SIO MAUA (raises voice at this point). You have been together you ought to know what your partner loves most. Buy him/her that.”

Hamisi Kombe – “Celebrating or not depends on the person. I don’t celebrate Valentine. It’s not biblical. But for those who wish to enjoy and celebrate this day I think a treat would do. I would suggest a day out, lunch date. Mapenzi or rather Upendo sio wa siku moja.”

Paps Mkare – My calender has 14th Feb but not valentine. Yaani namaanisha I do not celebrate Valentine. Infact I will be very busy on this day. Nitakuwa field. But If you love someone spend ample time with her/him. You can have a day out or remain indoors. Love has five languages; touch, gifting, words of affirmation, act of service and quality time. For this day I would go for gifting, words of affirmation and quality time.”

Hans Peter – “I would say having a date is the best way. KaGift pia sio mbaya. For those long distance relationships a special text message would do.”

Peter Kiringi – “I don’t subscribe to it. Sisherehekei. But the best way maybe kuchill tu kama you have someone you go for a date mnachill tu pamoja.”

Now, Wikipedia has it that Valentine’s Day, also called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine originated as a Christian feast day honoring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and, through later folk traditions, has become a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world.

Saint Valentine’s Day is not a public holiday in any country, a including Kenya. It is an official feast day in the Anglican Communion and the Lutheran Church. Many parts of the Eastern Orthodox Church also celebrate Saint Valentine’s Day on July 6 in honor of Roman presbyter Saint Valentine, and on July 30 in honor of Hieromartyr Valentine, the Bishop of Interamna (modern Terni)

The day is celebrated through sending greeting cards and gifts, dating, church services, and novenas.

As you choose whether to attend a service, buy gifts, or go for a date let’s have a look at a few bible verses that speak about love.

“Love your neighbor” is one of the popular Bible verse. Actually it holds incredible meaning. Mark 12:31 – The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

Being kind and loving towards those around you, whether it is a partner, family member, friend, or neighbor, is paramount to being true to your faith.

We love because God first loved us. 1 John 4:19

And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.1 John 4:21

It’s not enough to just show love and respect to God, you have to be just as kind to those around you. Your literal brothers and sisters deserve that as well as your metaphorical ones, alias your brothers and sisters in Christ.

Love should be shown without pretending. Hate evil, and hold on to what is good. Romans 12:9

Fake niceties don’t count when it comes to sharing love. You must exude genuine goodness. God can tell the difference.

We have known and have believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who remain in love remain in God and God remains in them. 1 John 4:16

You are able to share love because you have been shown love by God. Give that feeling to others by showing them how much you care as well.

Everything should be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14

This is my best. Yes, in everything that we do should be done in love. By that we are assured of living in peace.

Hate stirs up conflict, but love covers all offenses. Proverbs 10:12

It takes so much more energy to be hateful and angry. When you let go of life’s little tribulations and stay positive and loving, you’ll feel better and so will those around you. Everyone wins.
