What is it that you are holding in your heart, it is pressing you down, ebbing out your energy, zeal, motivation, pushing you to the wall?
There are times when situations push us to cry and it is not about shedding tears but crying out in surrender and in prayer for help.
David cried out many times to the Lord. The book of Psalm has many instances where David cried out to the Lord Psalm 34, Psalm 61:2; When Judah was under attack, they cried out for help 2nd Chronicles 13:14; the sons of Israel cried to the Lord on the account of the midians Judges 6:7; Moses cried to the Lord because of the Israelite Exodus 17:4 and key cry that saved us all is where Jesus Christ cried out in the ninth hour with a loud voice. Mathew 27:46
What am I trying to say? It is time to stop struggling and letting go for God to take up his position. You have tried your own way, several times but it has failed – Surrender. That business you began but still it has failed to pick up, don’t give up– Surrender. You have tried your best to raise up that son or daughter in the right way but still there something not right – surrender.
That habit that you have tried to run away from in your own understanding and knowledge but you keep doing it – surrender
So am talking about surrender? What is this about? According to my English dictionary ‘ it is stop resisting to an enemy or opponent and submit to their authority this is in military or the opponent.
Another definition says; ‘give up or hand over and also give in to a powerful emotion or influence’
But our surrender is not to none other than our God, the creator of heaven and earth and all that there’s in including you and i.
The first surrender is to give our lives to Jesus Christ so that we may receive the free gift of salvation. This is the starting point where you get to know why then am I surrendering my all to God.
To surrender all to God does the following;
1. You live by faith – Galatians 2:20 – I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God ,who loved me and gave himself for me. This an assurance that whatever it is that you are going through, that struggle, that storm, that challenge there is who has loved you enough to carry you through it because He lives in you, you only believe that he has made a way and you are indeed not alone.
2. Keep the devil away – James 4:7 – Submit yourselves, then to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. It is by submitting , surrendering to God about that challenge or habit the are you able to resist the devil and he has no choice but to flee from you.
3. Experience a lifting up – James 4:10 – Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will lift you up. Let go of the pride, the doing, the struggling, accept that you need help, it is not you but God. He makes it all happen and indeed he will lift you up into the next level of you life.
4. Get that much needed rest – Matthew 11:28 – ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. He has an excellent offer, come , and he has not said clean up first then come..He is saying so fondly to you and I, with what is a struggle to both of us, let me have that in exchange take this load of mine which is easy, joy, love, peace, kindness, gentleness, self control. No more struggles. Walk free..I am here.
Having a conversation about surrender can be easy but actual surrender all to God is hard, we look at our situations and struggles and think this one God can handle, this one I think it is too much to ask, or this one I can handle it myself but he wants you and me to surrender all to Him.
Proverbs 3;5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths. A loaded verse of whom to surrender too’.
We begin at the point of trust –
1. Trust Him with all you heart
2. We abandon our own understanding, our way of doing things
3. We then commit our ways to him as we acknowledge of who he is
4. Finally, he straightens up that path, that struggle, that desire, that habit
What is it that is a struggle that you are afraid to let go to God? What is it that you think He cannot handle? He is God. He is able in fact; he says he has good plans for you plans for a hope and good success – Jeremiah 29:11. Just try him. Cry out to Him and again Nehemiah 8:10 – Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength – the joy is happy over you; Him that make known our paths Psalm 16:11
Surrender all to God, pray, meditate on his word, do as it says, make a sacrifice of praise daily and take that much needed rest. Hand it over to Him now, he is waiting to hear from you. Drink from his well, and you shall never be thirsty again as you experience rivers of living water. flowing out of your belly. John 7:37 – 39
Prayer
Lord, I surrender all to you today, I choose to take the much needed rest that you have so lovingly offered and may you have your way in my life, as I wait on seeing your goodness in the land of the living. In Jesus Name I pray Amen.
