Significance of a Woman’s Duty in This World

March 8th, this is an International Women’s Day; a holiday that is celebrated annually, for the women’s rights movement. It’s celebrated to bring to attention issues such as gender equality, violence and abuse against women.

Additionally the day is meant to celebrate the progress that has been made in advancing women’s rights, while also acknowledging the work that still needs to be done to achieve true gender equality. On this day people organize events, rallies, marches, or simply show support and appreciation for the women in their lives.

It started as National Women’s day in the United States back in February 1909. After a year it was made an International day to give women a greater voice.

It is important to remember that Women’s Day is not just a one-day event, but a year-round effort to empower women, promote gender equality, and challenge gender stereotypes and discrimination.

Every year Women’s day has a theme and this year’s theme is DigitAll: Innovation and technology for gender equality.

The society also needs to know that there is a difference between equality and equity. Equality is whereby each individual is given the same resources and opportunities. As for equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.

As the world commemorates International Women’s Day, it’s fitting to honor women who love, mentor, inspire and help build our families and communities.

The bible emphasizes the significance of a woman’s duty in this world. God made women motivators, helpmates and caregivers. They are moms, sisters, spouses, friends among other things.

Sarah, Mary, Rebecca, Ruth, Deborah and others are recognized in the holy book as women who had faith filled personalities served as leaders during their time and continue to inspire us till date.

Proverbs 31:16-17 says, She considers a field and buys it; from her profits and plants a vineyard. She girds herself with strength, and strengthens her arms.”

The text talks of a virtuous woman who is portrayed as a shrewd and capable businesswoman who uses her resources wisely to generate income and invest in her own future. She is not afraid to take risks and make strategic decisions, as evidenced by her purchase of a field and her investment in a vineyard.

She is also described as a hard worker who approaches her tasks with vigor and strength, demonstrating her commitment to excellence in all that she does.

Basically the verse is a call to women to be industrious, enterprising, and resourceful in their personal and professional lives, and to use their talents and abilities to create opportunities for themselves and others. It also emphasizes the importance of diligence and hard work, and highlights the value of a strong work ethic as a key ingredient for success.

It is in the same perspective the society ought to have towards women.

Psalms 46:5; God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.
