DO YOU BELIEVE IN MUSIC THERAPY?

Who does not love music? It does not matter the type of music that it is. It could be hip-hop, rock, reggae, country, funk, blues or sol music.

Music basically fulfills many goals depending on the listeners intention of listening to music. But have you heard of music therapy? Music Therapy is the clinical & evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. And today the world commemorates World Music Therapy Day.

In 2016 World Federation of Music launched World Music Therapy Day. They singled out March 1st. On this day people round the world celebrate testifying the healing power that music has brought to them.

Hans Peter – For me music helps a great deal. There are times when you feel like you have no one to turn to or listen to but when I put my ear pods on everything else seems less important and I get a sense of satisfaction.”

What is Music Therapy?
Music can lift our mood, calm us, motivate us and even comfort us. Music therapy is basically the use of music to reduce stress, improve one’s mood through listening and singing. Music therapy has an important place in the society and should continue to be utilized for the betterment of our mental and emotional health.

Types of music therapy
Music therapy can either be an active or passive process. The active process is whereby the client plays a role in creating the music. Whereby passive process is whereby they listen and respond to the music.

Studies have shown that music therapy can be an effective way of helping with depression. Music speaks to us in a way no one can.

One may listen to music that he / she may not exactly understand the language being used but it brings joy and pace to them.

Research shows that music helps some to sleep. Some with sleeping disorders or insomnia tend to listen to the mystical type of music in order to get a peaceful sleep. Music can be used to meditate too. Ambient music is a genre of music that prioritizes tone and atmosphere. This type of music simply enhances mental concentration.

Just as music therapy has existed long before in the 5000 years Before Christ Where the Egyptian priests-physicians used music for healing. The same can also be seen in many other cultures where local medicine and native doctors use music chants and incantations and dances to cure their patients especially those with mental disorders.

In this 20th century, music therapy has gained acceptance as a field of therapeutic medicine.
