Battle for Kilifi county kicks off

The race for the top office in Kilifi county has already kicked off as two members of Parliament both from the Orange Democratic Party showed interest to take over from Governor Amason Jefa Kingi after his last term in office.
Making his big announcement at Alaskani Grounds in Malindi Sub-County, Kilifi North Mp Owen Baya said he is optimistic of succeeding Kingi and continue the journey of transforming Kilifi starting from where Kingi would have left.
“I believe in Kilifi residents and I know you will make a right decision come 2022 if you elect me to continue where Kingi would have left,” said Baya.
On the other hand Malindi Legislator Aisha Jumwa Katana said it is now time for the women to contest for the most top high position in politics in the county and therefore men will have to pave way for them.
“I am not saying that I will vie for the position of governor in Kilifi, but if the ‘handsome boy’ Kingi terminates his term then a ‘beautiful’ girl should take over, and am very sure the people of Kilifi will elect their mum,” Aisha stated.
There has been debates on who is suitable to succeed Kingi since he is serving his last term after he was elected for the second term consecutively, a debate that has been an uphill task to the constituents of Kilifi.
Aisha Jumwa was elected as a member of parliament for Malindi town after she served as Kilifi women representative during the first term of devolved government while Owen Baya served as the County Secretary for Kilifi before he was elected as a member of parliament for Kilifi North taking over from Gideon Maitha Mung’aro.
