Mental Strength

The modern world has brought up a very weak generation. So many people are afraid of pain and hate having to struggle. People are constantly complaining of how life is unfair, and yes, life is unfair but what you do about it is what matters.

 I love the Bible story in Luke 10:38-42 where Jesus and His disciples were welcomed by Martha to her home. While Martha was busy preparing things to serve her guests, her sister Mary was at Jesus’ feet listening to his teachings. Martha got upset and complained to Jesus about it. The Lord answered her,”Martha! You are worried and troubled over so many things, but just one is needed. Mary has chosen the right thing, and it will not be taken away from her.” Mary chose to feed and satisfy her spiritual thirst while her sister chose to complain about her not being able to do so. But whose fault was it?

Life was not designed to give us what we need, rather what we deserve. The reason why many people in this generation are weak is because they think the world owes them what they need. For instance, we need money to survive but does it mean life will just let money rain on us even without going out to work for it? We reap what we sow. So if you want to get out of that hard situation you are going through right now, you have to do something about it.

So what is Mental Strength? It is the ability to manage and overcome worries that hold you back from reaching your dreams. The only way to gain mental strength is by avoiding small bad habits that make us weak. There four things that you should not allow to control your life so as to gain mental strength:

  1. Your past; what has happened yesterday is already gone. Life will never give you the opportunity to go back there and change it. Do not focus on what is not in your power; you will only strain for nothing. Fight to make a better tomorrow because it is in your power to do so.
  2. Other people’s opinions and judgments; Never dim your light so you can fit into the dull background of others. You are extra ordinary, with an extra ordinary gift, you just have to spot it and work hard to perfect it.
  3. Self-pity; complaining and constantly feeling sorry for yourself will just keep you stuck there. Do what you can about it, and do it to the fullest.
  4. Envy; do you have a friend whose life seems so perfect and you cannot help but feel a bit jealous? That’s dangerous! It may not seem serious at first but little by little it will start draining you. This one of the small habits that you have to avoid really hard for you to focus on working on your dream. You should never feel like you are competing with anyone but your weaknesses.

Life will always seem to pull you behind as you work towards your goals. But with mental strength, you can keep moving forward. So start losing these little bad habits.
